SHOT Session Query: Mechanical to Electrical
Maggie Dennis is organizing a session for the annual SHOT meeting in Munich, and she is looking for potential participants. The theme of the session is postwar (1950-80) consumer electronics. More specifically, the session looks at the shift from a mechanical to electronic material world. The focus on consumer electronics (as opposed to technologies developed for military, government, or industrial purposes) allows for the inclusion of both radical developments on the production side, as well as the impact on and role of consumers/users. The paper Maggie proposes to deliver at the session draws on her research about the invention and marketing of the first electronic wristwatches (one of the first consumer electronic products, along with hearing aids and hand-held calculators).
